COMPETITION RULES

COMPETITION RULES

  • WHO CAN ENTER?
Works may be office buildings, houses, villas, flats, multi-purpose buildings, interiors, urban design, etc. which can be entered in the Marble Architectural Awards competition either by the architects/designers themselves or by other people involved in their completion (building companies, stone suppliers, public administrations and institutions, developers, estate agents, engineering companies, main contractors, installation companies, etc.). However, only completed works will be admitted.

  • WHAT ARE THE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENT?
In order to qualify for entrance the work (of any type) must be “substantially completed” according to current legislation and must be designed by an architect or designer who is registered with a recognised national professional association. The architect may also enter as part of a team. However, if the entrant is not the only designer, due recognition must be attributed to the other professionals involved, regardless of their individual profession.
If a designer is submitting a building complex or part thereof appropriate documentation must be included to prove authorship of each part of the complex.
  • WHO JUDGES THE WORKS ENTERED?
Each year a different jury panel selects the winning projects and those receiving special mentions from the submitted works. Well-known architects and professionals with expertise in the use of natural stone are invited to take part in the panel. When choosing the panel the IMM addresses the relevant professional bodies and aims to involve the leading figures in the area of interest of the Awards.

  • HOW TO ENTER?
To enter the MAA, two simple procedures are required:
  1. The designer must first complete the entrance form and send it to the Awards Administrative Office, specifying the number of works he/she wishes to enter. The form can be found in advertisements in the major architecture and design reviews or can be requested directly from the administrative office by completing the form on line on the IMM site

  2. Upon receipt of the form the administrative office will send the design information folder (photos, slides, drawings, descriptive technical sheets). One folder will be sent for each work entered in the competition. The subsequent sending of the documentation – according to the guidelines and formats indicated in the folder – will constitute the actual and final participation in the competition.

  •  WHAT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPATION?
The participation folder sent by the administrative office to the architects/designers who have sent participation forms contains all the instructions for sending the documentation required to take part in the competition. The documentation required includes photographs, slides, drawings and descriptive technical sheets as well as clear and complete information as to the design work and completion of the work. The documentation must be produced and sent by the architect/designer according to the time scale and methods indicated by the administration office. The IMM reserves the right to refuse submissions with insufficient documentation or received beyond the deadlines.
  • WHEN DOES THE AWARDS CEREMONY TAKE PLACE?
The award winners, those receiving special mentions and representatives of the companies supplying the stone products for the works chosen will be invited to take part in the public MAA awards ceremony organised every year in Carrara during the CarraraMarmotec (end May-beginning of June). This is an excellent publicity opportunity the award winners due to the large audiences the event attracts and its inclusion in the programme of meetings and conferences held at CarraraMarmotec, the international business-to-business fair for the best of the latest materials and technology available in the industry.

  •  WHO DOES TO CONTACT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION?
Each year the MAA administrative office publishes the instructions for participation on the IMM site (www.maa.immcarrara.com) and in the folder sent out to entrants who have completed the participation form.
